Gowan Valley Guest Farm offers the ultimate in old-fashioned hospitality in the Natal Midlands near Michaelhouse and many other KZN private schools. We are the first choice in accommodation for the nearby Orchards Wedding Venue as it is a mere 2km away.
Gowan Valley is owned byTerry and Tessa Bouwer (past co owners and managers of Umngazi River Bungalows) with Brett and Deanne Bouwer. The Bouwer family also own the hugely successful, nearby Orchards Wedding Venue. We have renovated and redecorated the existing 8 rooms and built a further 5 lovely, spacious garden rooms.
Meander down into the valley of peace and quiet, where you can relax and unwind beside our picturesque river. We offer a hearty breakfast after a great nights rest, the guest farm is a place where you can enjoy the pleasure of being really well cared for in a quiet haven of leisure and comfort. Gowan Valley offers the perfect accommodation for wedding-goers, those who want a getaway to Meander, enjoy the fresh Midlands air or business travellers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gowan Valley. The rooms were lovely, super comfortable beds, neat and clean. The breakfast was delicious and nothing better than the fireplaces to keep us warm. We went for a lovely walk around the farm and along the river. Deanne was the perfect host, very accommodating and always available. We will definitely be back! Loved it!
We booked all 13 rooms for family and friends attending our daughter’s wedding at The Orchards Wedding Venue. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The breakfasts were fantastic and the hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. We loved having a sitting room with a fireplace where our family could visit in the evenings. This was the closest accommodation to the wedding venue and we really appreciated the fact that we only had to drive about 1.5 km to and from the wedding venue.

We initially booked to stay for a wedding we were attending but unfortunately we could not make it but Deanne allowed me to delay the booking. We eventually booked for our extended family to make a weekend in the country. The rooms are lovely and have enough heaters to make it warm and cost. We spent most of our time in the main dining area. Here there was a fire going all the time. Deanne was amazing so accommodating. Everyone had a wonderful weekend. The river, Nguni cattle and horses just add to the country feel. We will definitely beck.

The service at Gowan Valley is personal and professional. Deanne and Brett are always amazing hosts, seeing to every detail in order to make my stay comfortable and easy, and doing everything they can to accommodate me. I have had the opportunity to “try out” most of the rooms, and while number 7 is probably my favourite (I love the sound of the river, the little couch on the verandah, and the invitation above the bath to soak in a bubble bath with a glass of wine :-)) – all the rooms are comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated. The beds have beautiful, high quality linen, (flannel in Winter) and feather pillows if that’s your preference. The ambiance on the guest farm is relaxed, calm and beautiful! … from the sounds of the river, to the Nguni cows grazing in the fields, to the beautiful gardens – I am delighted to have stumbled across this gem so close to where my boys are at school. The breakfasts are delicious! fresh fruit and thick yoghurt, delicious eggs, mushrooms and tomato (and I believe very tasty bacon and sausages if you eat meat), The hosts, Deanne and Brett are friendly and attentive, and will make you feel completely at home and welcome! Deanne always goes out of her way to accommodate me, if she can, even if I book at the last minute. This is my first choice of place to stay in the KZN midlands.

We are regulars at Gowan Valley guest farm, and we enjoy our stay every single time! We cannot fault this wonderful guest farm. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable, and its the small attention to detail that makes this place so special. The owners are very attentive and friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate you. From the beautiful setting, the stunning rooms, the exceptional service and great breakfasts, this Guest house is a real gem in the natal midlands. We love everything about Gowan Valley, and cannot wait for our next stay!
We have just spent 3 nights at this delightful guest farm, our experience from start to finish was outstanding . The staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, excellent fresh breakfast, extremely comfortable beds and linen and a shower that works properly . We have stayed in many guest houses in the area and rate this one the best. Eastwoods Johannesburg
Everything about this place succeeds in taking your breath away, from the moment you drive over the bridge leading onto the property, to the first glimpse of the thatched house, to the warm welcome, gorgeously decorated rooms and hearty breakfasts. We absolutely loved it. We were very well looked after by the staff and the owner’s parents, who could not be more helpful, friendly or forthcoming. The room we were in was River Cottage #7 which is the closest to the river and has it’s own private verandah and entrance. Décor was fabulous, the room is very spacious and the bathroom second to none. We were recommended two eateries in the area, both of which were affordable with good food. All in all a most enjoyable experience.
A magnificent setting in the heart of the midlands. This beautiful B&B is family owned and managed. The attention to detail and warm hospitality is evident from the moment you arrive to the delicious Farm style breakfast served overlooking a beautiful flowing river. A must stay when visiting the midlands.
We booked the entire farm for our sons wedding. From the time we first booked until we left, everything was perfect. All our guests raved about the accomodation and not to mention the breakfast that is included. Our hosts went out of there way to assist us in every way possible and nothing was to much trouble. It is close to many of the wedding venues in the Midlands as well as the schools. The setting is beautiful and the atmosphere is wonderful. Thank you for an amazing 4 days. Steve,Yvonne, family and friends.
